The Minnesota Wild traded up to pick 83 in the 2026 NHL Draft and selected Adam Andersson, a 6-foot-4 center from Sweden.
The Wild did not have a first-round pick after trading it to the Vancouver Canucks as part of a blockbuster deal for star defenseman Quinn Hughes.
The Canucks used the pick to select Adam Novotný.
The Wild also did not have a second-round pick due to the Gustav Nyquist trade, but they made a move to get back into the draft.
Minnesota traded up from 89 to 83 and added pick 153 to the trade, which was acquired by the Los Angeles Kings.
Andersson had three goals and 17 points in 30 games for Leksands IF U20 and ranked 8th in scoring in the league.
Wild Director of European Scouting Ricard Persson said Andersson is a big centerman with a strong work ethic and is heavy and hard to play against.
The Wild have three more picks in the draft, including 121, 137, and 185.
As of the end of the regular season, the Minnesota Wild were standing 3rd in the Western Conference with a 46-24 record and on a W1 streak after losing 4-3 to the Colorado Avalanche on 2026-05-14.
Andersson is a physical center who is good on the dot and understands the game both offensively and defensively.
The Wild are looking to add depth to their roster with the draft picks.
Andersson was ranked 40th by THN's Tony Ferrari.
The Wild will look to make the most of their remaining picks in the draft.
